World’s 1st 10 Oz Silver Legal Tender Coin 1987 Proof, Isle of Man, 10 Crowns, Commemorating America's Cup, Uncirculated Proof with COA (Certificate of Authenticity) and case, a world first, ten ounces of fine (pure) silver. QEII on obverse.

Please note: The coin is pristine. The mark near the queen's face is a tiny bit of filament debris trapped inside the capsule. I don't want to open the capsule to remove it. I see no damage to the coin anywhere.
The 1980s was a silver decade with many nations issuing their first one ounce silver collector coins and series. In 1986, three nations, Samoa, China, and St. Helena, took it a step further and issued the world's first legal tender five ounce silver coins (see my eBay store).
One year later, in 1987, the Isle of Man doubled down on that event and issued the world's first 10 ounce legal tender pure silver coin. The mintage was very low at only 5,000 pieces and the design is exceptional, celebrating the America's Cup race.
Before this coin, there were 10 ounce silver medals issued by several different nations and some huge coins that weighed almost ten ounces but this Isle of Man coin was the world's first ten ounce silver legal tender coin. Today, many nations have followed suit and issued their own ten ouncers, and coins much larger than that, too.
It will come in its original clear capsule. An original COA is included. The case has done a great job of protecting the coin and capsule but the outside of the case is scuffed up, as you can see.
More Background:
According to an article that appeared in a major numismatic magazine, (an article you may be able to find online if you Google) the title of “World’s first five ounce silver legal tender coin” belongs to the 1986 coins of three different nations, China, St. Helena and Ascension Island, and Western Samoa (now called Samoa).
There were 5 ounce silver medals, fantasy coins and medallic coinage made prior to 1986, and coins weighing
almost
5 ounces, but the first true full 5 ounce legal tender coins debuted no earlier than 1986.
The beautiful Napoleonic St. Helena and Ascension 25 pounds made by the Royal Mint in the UK has a mintage of 15,000.
The Samoan made by the Singapore Mint is scarce but also a bit easier to locate because the mintage is 25,000. Of course, there is no way to know how many of these were melted during the last few spikes in silver prices.
The Chinese 50 yuan made by the Chinese Mint is rare in pristine condition both because mintage was only 3,000 pieces and because the original packaging has created a lot of PVC contamination among those coins that were stored in that packaging.
Since 1986, dozens of nations have authorized 5 ounce legal tender coins, including the USA, and the popularity of these issues continues to grow. But with this auction, you get one of the originals from the very first year of these silver behemoths, 1986.
This special and unique coin has both intrinsic value and collectible value.
