    Description

Monster Digital PowerCenter HDM MDP650G 650G GreenPower SaveEnergy Tested OK
This unit bears both the "HP" (Hewlett-Packard" and "Monster" brands.  Sometimes companiles like HP and Dell will put their own brands on products sold through their sales channels.  I don't assume that HP had a hand in designing this item but they may have had a hand in issues like quality control.
This unit has no serial number but it does have a set of "clock faces" with a single "arrow hand" that indicate that this speciffic unit was made in the 6th month of the year 2012.
    CONDITION OF THIS UNIT:
    The below information in "
    italics
" is a word for word copy of text found in a "condition description" that ebay provides for sellers to complete when selling an item other than "New". So if you've already read the next paragraph, you don't need to read it again:
Great energy saving and surge protecting device.  1 "always on" outlet", 1 "master outlet" labelled "Computer GreenPower Control" for plugging in your computer's power cord, and 4 accessory outlets labelled "Monster Greenpower Controlled Outlets" that are only "on" when this surge protector power center detects that a PC (or something else with a similar power draw) is plugged into the "computer" outlet and powered on.  So if you shut down the device in the "computer" outlet, power is cut automatically to items in the 4 "controlled outlets", such as a monitor, speakers, and/or printer, since if the PC's not on, neither do its accessories need to stay on.  There is also one "always on" outlet, to plug something into like a cable modem which might be providing service to other devices that might remain in use even if the plugged-in computer is turned off.  See test details below (all outlets stayed on or were shut down as designed to do). The unit has scuffs, mainly on sides and back.
Note that the "logo label" on the front side is in excellent condition because the prior owner left a thin plastic film in place that was put there by the manufacturer to protect it during shipping and handling.  It was starting to peel off so I removed it the rest of the way.
    GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THIS  UNIT:
The 650G Digital PowerCenter with GreenPower from HP (Monster) is a power-strip style surge protector designed for use with your computer and its peripherals. It features 6 outlets and surge protection for a phone connection.
In addition, it also features two built-in technologies, Dual Mode Plus and GreenPower. The Dual Mode Plus technology keeps your computer, monitor, printer, and other equipment safe from even the most powerful surges and spikes. It automatically disconnects your connected equipment when it detects dangerous power conditions and sounds an alarm.
The GreenPower technology allows you to save money by automatically reducing energy use. Simply plug your computer into the GreenPower Control outlet. When it's turned off or goes to sleep, the other GreenPower outlets switch off, automatically eliminating energy wasted by peripherals, like your monitor and scanner, when you're not using them. When your computer turns back on, the GreenPower outlets automatically power up again.
    6 surge-protected AC outlets
2160 Joule rating provides high level of protection
Monster GreenPower technology allows you to save money by automatically reducing energy use. It switches off outlets that connect computer peripherals, so that when your computer is off or in sleep mode, these peripherals are off. When your computer turns back on, the GreenPower outlets automatically power up again
Dual Mode Plus surge protection technology keeps your computer, monitor, printer, and other equipment safe from even the most powerful surges and spikes. It automatically disconnects your connected equipment when it detects dangerous power conditions
PHOTOS SHOW TESTING SEQUENCE AND CONDITION OF UNIT
The photos in order tell the story:
    1.  Full front shot of unit.  Cord not yet plugged in so all indicator lights are off.
    2.  Unit now plugged into wall outlet.  It will remain plugged in during all subsequent photographs unless otherwise stated.  A basic circuit tester (not part of this sale; note that on side of tester is written "not for sale") is plugged into the "always on" outlet labelled "MODEM".  The tester shows the 2 outer lights both lit, meaning the circuit is on, properly grounded, and has correct polarity.
    3.   Lights on tester are both off because it has been pulled most of the way out of the Modem socket so is no longer making electrical contact.
    4.   Circuit tester now in the "Computer" outlet.  Both lights on tester are on because the unit is plugged into live AC and the "Computer" outlet senses that something is plugged into it.
    5.  Tester now moved to "Monitor" slot.  Both tester lights are off, because without something drawing as much power as a typical PC would, the 4 outlets in the "bank" including the Monitor outlet are switched off -- just as they would be if you'd turned off a computer or similar eledtrical load producing item plugged into the "computer" slot, at which point that bank of 4 outlets is immediately switched off to save energy.
    6.  A PC's AC cord is now plugged into the "Computer" slot, but that PC is now "off" so only drawing minimal "standby" power -- not enough to activea that bank of 4 adjacend outlets including the "Monitor" outlet.  So the tester in the "Monitor" slots has no lighs lit.
    7.  The PC whose AC cord is plugged into the unit is now turned on, and the unit has therefore now switched on those 4 outlets in that bank of outlets including the "Montor outlet.  So the test lights on the tester in the "Monitor" outlet are now on.
    8.  The PC has now been switched off again and while its AC cord is still plugged into the "Computer" outlet, the unit has sensed that the PC is now "off" so has cut power to that bank of 4 outlets.  The two test indicator lights in the tester plugged into the "Monitor" outlet are therefore off again.
The remaining photos are to show additional details of the appearance of the unit as the testing has now been completed:
    9.  Full photo showing the unit with its cord (just over 6' long) "hanked" with a velcro style cord organizer (to be included with this item here being sold).  You can see the 90 degree style of the plug, so that it can allow furniture to be moved up agaisnt it without kinking the cord.  I did not select the term "Flat plug" offered by ebay, because those kinds of plugs are thinner than this one so allows furniture to be pushed even closer to a wall outlet with such a plug in it.  But the idea is the same.
    10.  Close up of that 90 degree plug.
    11.  Bottom of unit, showing slots to allow wall mounting (hardware not included but can be included on request, the type that lets you mount flat head screws into "drywall" so that you can then slide an item like this into those slots -- remember to not drive those screws all the way "flat" or this feature can't work).  This view also shows various scuffs and scratches on the bottom of the unit, which is where the majority of such cosmetic issues are to be found.  This suggests that this unit was located on a floor at some point.
    12.  Side view of one narrow edge, showing in/out phone line slots for an RJ11/13 style plug.  Note that only the 2 center conductors, out of a possible 4, are present, which satisfies the RJ11 standard for attaching a single line phone or fax machine.
FREE "STANDARD CLASS" SHIPPING (MEANS YOU MIGHT GET A FREE UPGRADE TO FASTER SERVICE):
eBay defines "Standard Class" shipping as meaning a shipping service that is supposed to get a buyer's item to them within 5 business days after being given to the shipper by the ebay seller (plus, in our case, our standard 1 business day after payment handling time between payment date and shipment date).  When you choose "Free Shipping", we will pick from available carriers that will commit to delivering your item(s) to you at least that quickly, based on whichever method costs us the least.  And if that means choosing Priority Mail when doing so is less expensive for us than using a usually slower service such as "FedEx Ground" por "FedEx Home Delivery" that only just satisfies ebay's "Standard Class" class shipping standards, we'll "upgrade" you to Priority Mail at no added cost.
    RETURNS IN GENERAL
    :
Please be sure to save all shipping and packing materials (box, padding, etc.) for the length of the potential return period, in the event a return is to take place.  If you have any questions at all about the condition of the materials, however, please contact us first to confirm that we would authorize you to re-use those materials in returning an item to us, since sometimes those materials get chewed up enough during initial delivery that they need to be repaired or replaced before being re-used.
    BUYER NO-FAULT RETURNS
:  30 calendar day return time, running from date of first attempt at delivery by the chosen shipper to your ebay verified shipping address, if you return these for any or no reason in the same condition as sent, at your expense.  However, if you do something that causes one of these to fail in use, e.g., if you spill your drink into one of these and it shorts out and dies, that is a good example of something that would not qualify as a "BUYER NO-FAULT RETURN".
    CLAIMED SELLER FAULT RETURNS:
Ebay lets you return almost anything within 30 days after receiving it, if what was purchased is not what the listing represented it to be, no matter what limitations a seller may try to put on the reasons for return (and many do).  Please see exact details as provided by eBay at the top of this listing.  To the extent that ebay allows it, you must use a shipping class and type that costs no more than what we used to ship your item(s) to you.
SALES TAX ISSUES: (A) Exemption Claim; (B)  EBAY'S POLICY SINCE JANUARY 2019 REGARDING CHARGING SALES TAX ON INTERNET SALES
    :
    A.  Exemption:  As of the date of this listing, if you are a reseller qualified for this itemto be exempt from automatic state sales tax collection by eBay (see "(B)" below)
, if you think eBay might automatically add sa
les tax here, please contact eBay and/or check with us before you bid about filing any required exemption forms to seek.  Be sure to take care of this before you pay, since (a) we never see that tax money, so can't refund what we never had, and (b) we are not in a position to be your "advocate" in dealing with dozens of different state laws and requirements to allow sales tax not to be paid.  Note that we can't allow nonpayment to go on indefinitely while you do what you need to do to try to avoid paying sales tax, which is why we are letting you know about this issue before you buy.
    B.  For all buyers:  On January 3, 2019, we received the following message from ebay about sales tax collection:
"If you sell to buyers in the US, some states may require you to collect applicable Internet Sales Tax on your transactions. In such cases, eBay calculates, collects, and remits Internet Sales Tax for orders shipped to customers on your behalf. After we collect state Internet Sales Tax, you do not need to take any action. There are no extra charges or fees for this service. Learn more about Internet Sales Tax on our Help pages."
We aren't 'tax experts', but what we think the above basically means is that if you buy something on ebay that you would have had to pay sales tax on, if you'd bought it instead from a local store like a Best B
    uy
store, etc., in your state, ebay might now add your state's sales tax to your purchase price. eBay would then send that tax money, that was part of the total that ebay had you pay, to your state.
We never see that money, so can't "refund" it. Even if you told us before you purchased the item, and sent us documentation to prove such exempt status, we as the seller have no way to stop eBay from adding state sales tax to what you bought. And even if you sent us documentation before or after the purchase, as some sellers have done with us in the past, and asked us either to refund the amount of tax paid, or if not yet paid, ask us to custom create an invoice that does not charge tax, our experience is that eBay will add tax anyway.
Some states may provide a way on your tax return forms to request a sales tax refund.
Please contact ebay if you have any questions about these sales tax issues.
