For Your Lucky Penny or Encased Cent Collection-LCK07
Details
Description:
an aluminum encased lucky 1953 D wheat cent. The cent is encased in an Aluminum casing shaped as a horse shoe for luck. It is inscribed on the obverse side is "STEPHEN LAURIE MFG. CO. 5913 RIDGE AVENUE PHILA PA" The other side says "I Bring Good Luck-KEEP ME AND NEVER GO BROKE" The piece is shaped in the form of a horseshoe and measures ~1 5/8" by ~1 3/8". It is in very fine condition with wear to the Aluminum casing and to the cent itself. I would grade the coin itself as a good very fine or much better while the casing would grade as about very fine. This piece is one of several acquired from the estate of a collector, which we will be listing in the coming weeks. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date:
The cent is dated 1953 with "D" mint mark and having the wheat reverse.
Origin:
Purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Mint:
The cent was minted at the Denver mint.
Weight and Size:
The piece measures ~1 5/8" by ~1 3/8" and weighs ~6.6 grams.
Condition:
I would grade the coin itself as a good very fine or better while the casing would grade as about very fine or better. The aluminum casing has some wear but the inscription is all there and very readable with considerable wear. The piece was obviously on someone's key chain as evidenced by the wear at the hole in the bottom. The cent itself would grade as a good very fine or better with well preserved details and wear commensurate with its age and use. It has some wear to the high point, some minor scratches and dings from circulation, but retains some of its original luster. Please view scan for additional condition information and to appreciate the beauty of this encased cent.
